Flights to Bordeaux from Ireland make the Dordogne more accessible for the first time

BORDEAUX has become a popular destination for my fellow countrymen in recent weeks with two new routes, operated by Aer Arann, from Galway and Waterford.

The route from Waterford launched last year making the Dordogne and southwest France easily accesible to Irish businessmen and women, holidaymakers and second home owners for the first time.

Irish Ferries began services in 1973 from Rosslare to various ports in Northern France but recent fuel surcharges and the price of oil make the cost  of the journey by sea prohibitive for most. The long journey time also made the ferry from Ireland less appealing.

It has always been notoriously difficult and expensive to get off the Island but, now, for the first time, the Irish can fly to a part France directly from airports other than Dublin without having to stop over in the UK en route.

As a result, the routes are proving to be very popular with flights to Bordeaux twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.

Flights will operate for the summer until Spetember 15th.
